Pitch renovations

The end of the season is when next season is won. We renovate worn grass pitches for schools and clubs, so they come back in September level, green and ready for games.

What a renovation involves

A season of matches leaves a pitch compacted, thin and bumpy. Renovation strips that damage out and rebuilds the surface while the pitch is resting.

First we clear out the dead grass and thatch choking the surface. Then we open up the compacted ground so air and water move again. New material goes on to level the surface, followed by seed matched to how the pitch is used. Feed and aftercare take it through to the new season.

We do the whole programme with our own machinery, timed for the school holidays or the close season.

Questions

Before you ask

When should a pitch be renovated?

As soon as the season ends. That gives the new seed the longest possible run of warm weather before the pitch is played on again.

How long before we can play on it?

It depends on the weather and how much work the pitch needed. We plan renovations so the surface is ready when your season starts and we tell you the timeline up front.

Do you renovate cricket squares?

Yes. Squares get their own end-of-season programme, separate from the outfield.
